Services: Parmacological Screening in vivo Pharmacological Services in votro Pharmacological Screening in vivo Quality Management Program Drug Safety

Early in vivo pre-clinical testing is conducted to study the therapeutic activity of new drugs. Most studies are conducted at our facility in the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology, the premier drug-testing laboratory in Ukraine. Oncology studies are conducted at IEPOR, the premier cancer research center in the former Soviet Union.

Screening for Analgesic, Antihypertensive, and Cardiotonic Activity (in vivo)

Study Code Study Name Study Purpose and Value Duration (weeks)
AAL Analgesic activity Evaluation of compounds with potential analgesic activity using rats (tail-flick, tail-clip and hot plate procedures, Randall et Salito method, formalin test, adjuvant induced arthritis, peripheral neuropathy). 2-3
AHYPAL Antihypertensive activity Non-invasive measuring of systolic blood pressure in rat tail artery. An evaluation of a systolic blood pressure using spontaneously hypertensive Okamoto rats. 2-3
CTAL Cardiotonic activity Evaluation of compounds with potential cardiotonic activity using dogs. 2-3

Early in vivo pre-clinical testing of oncology drugs is conducted to study the anti-tumor, anti-metastatic, and anti-angiogenic activity of new drugs, determine the spectrum of tumor strains against which new drugs show high anti-tumor efficacy, evaluate the range of therapeutic doses, and define the selectivity of the new drugs being tested. The proficiency of IEPOR staff in transplanting tumors for experimental studies is so high that the success rate of transfers is virtually 100%.

Screening for Anticancer Activity (in vivo)

Study Code Study Name Study Purpose and Value Duration (weeks)
LD50-2 Determination of maximal tolerated dose (MTD) of test article. To evaluate acute toxicity (LD0, LD50, LD100 ) of single dose or repeated doses of test article for one species of animal 4-5
PSA-2 Pre-screening of antitumor activity of new test article against 3 (three) tumor strains of different genesis. To estimate spectrum of antitumor activity of test article used in one therapeutic dose against tumor strains of different origin. 12-16
CAT-2 To compare antitumor activity of test article against of 8-10 tumor strains. To determine spectrum of antitumor activity of test article used in one therapeutic dose against a panel of tumor strains of different origin. 26-30
SAT-2 Estimation of the selectivity of antitumor activity of test article against one tumor strain. To determine the spectrum of therapeutic doses of test article and its antitumor selectivity by estimation of the therapeutic index. 12-16
AMA-2 To investigate the antimetastatic activity of test article against two spontaneously metastasizing tumour strains. To evaluate antimetastatic activity of the test article used in one therapeutic dose against metastases of the transplanted tumours. 8-12
